We take a closer look at Ken Kayser’s 1957 Corvette Airbox Chassis
Those Vette Vues Magazine readers who were lucky enough to be in Building T at Carlisle on August 24-26, 2012, may have noticed a 1957 Corvette Airbox Chassis with the rare 1RPO-57D option that had been freshly restored by Ken Kayser of Kayser Specialty Co. If you didn’t get to see it, read on to find out what made this ’57 Corvette chassis so special.
The Corvette St. Louis, Missouri Plant originally built this Corvette on June 7, 1957, Sixty-five years ago!
The 1957 Chassis has the RPO-684 Heavy Duty Brake and Suspension package consisting of:
- Heavy Duty Springs
- Heavy Duty Shocks
- Vented Brake Backing Plates
- Finned Brake Drums
- Fast Steering Adapter
- Heavy Duty Sway Bar
- 5-1/2″ Wide Wheels
Other unique features:
The RPO-579B 283 CID – 283 HP “EL” V8 Engine with the Tachometer Drive Distributor is one of only 713 built.
The Rochester Fuel Injection is the Model 7014520 Serial Number 2326.
The RPO-685 4-Speed T-10 is one of only 664 built and features the rare 1957 only 4-speed shifter.
The RPO-677 Positraction 3.70 Rear axle is one of only 327 built.
