The Corvette ZR1 Special Performance Package History
The ZR1 Special Performance Package for the C4 Corvette arrived at the beginning of 1990. By 1995 sales had been disappointing despite the car’s lightning performance and rave reviews by the automotive press.
In 1990 the ZR1 sold 3,032; in 1991, only 2,044; in 1992, only 502; in 1993, only 448 and in 1994 only sold 448. For 1995 once again only sold 448 units.
Consequently, Chevrolet announced its decision to cease production of the ZR1 after 1995.
The ZR1 was the most well-equipped and potent Corvette in two decades and well deserved its moniker, the “King of the Hill.”
The ZR1 is distinguished by its special rear bodywork designed to accommodate Goodyear Z-rated P315/35ZR17 tires – the largest ever seen on the Corvette – the ZR1 came loaded with power driver and passenger sport seats, electronic Selective Ride and Handling, electronic air conditioning, Low Tire Pressure Warning System, Deco-Bose stereo with CD player and a specially laminated “solar” windshield.
1995 Corvette ZR1 Additional Cost
In addition to the base price of the Corvette, the new owner had to add another $31,258 for his 1995 ZR1 Corvette.
