IMSA at VIR Aug 23-25, 2019 Corvettes finish 3rd & 4th at VIR as Porsches win on the way to the 2019 GTLM title Unable to match the pace of the Porsches, the 2 Corvettes were part of a thrilling battle for 3rd on the podium (and 4th) ahead of Ford and BMW.  Qualifying a remarkable 2nd, # 3 Jan Magnussen quickly lost the spot to the # 912 Porsche RSR of Earl Bamber with an aggressive outside pass in turn 1. The entire GTLM field pitted when an early caution flag came out just 20 minutes into the race. Both Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs led the GT Le Mans (GTLM) category and were in contention for the program’s 100thh victory in IMSA competition. Ultimately, however, the race and fortune went against Corvette Racing as it went for an eighth class victory at the circuit. General Motors Co. announced its Tonawanda, New York, engine plant will build the company’s next-generation 6.2L Small Block V-8 engine that will power the all-new 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. Production of the 2020 Corvette Stingray begins at GM’s Bowling Green, Kentucky assembly plant in late 2019. This news follows the reveal of the 2020 Corvette July 18, 2019, in Tustin, California. Powered by the Tonawanda-built next-gen 6.2L Small Block V-8 LT2 engine, the 2020 Stingray will offer customers the most horsepower and torque of any entry Corvette: SAE-certified to 495 hp and SAE-certified to 470 lb.-ft. of torque (when equipped with a performance exhaust.) I saw this great video of Andy Pargh interviewing Rick Malone, Chief Driving Instructor and Driving School Director at the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School located at the Spring Mountain Motor Resort and Country Club in Pahrump, Nevada. (This is 50 miles west of Las Vegas.) The video does a great job of explaining what you need to know if you are still thinking of getting a 2019 Corvette.
