Chevrolet’s 2022 Corvette C8.R Championship Edition Is a Race-Ready Masterpiece
Chevy introduced a limited edition GTLM 2022 Corvette C8.R Championship Edition as a tribute to their C8.R IMSA GTLM race cars. We will look at the special edition Corvette Stingray, its high specifications, why it was so quickly sold out, and where you can get one.
The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible and Chevrolet’s first mid-engine GTLM race car – the Corvette C8.R – were unveiled Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. You can read about the unveiling of the C8.R Corvette race car here.

Sold Out Quickly
If you were thinking you would like to have ordered the 2022 C8.R Edition Back you weren’t alone. But it sold the 1,000 unite production run very fast! They started taking orders on the 2022 Corvette Stingray on July 1st and by the time the production began on September 6 almost half of them were already sold. The demand was high and by October the remaining 2022 Corvette C8 R Edtion were sold.
So how much did the new GTLM 2022 C8.R Championship Edition C8 Corvette cost? The additional cost for option ZCR was $6,595.00. 2022 Corvette coupe prices start at $62,195, and convertibles at $69,695. Each car came with a custom-fitted indoor car cover with a sleek appearance and coloring that matches the No 3 or No r Corvette C8.R race car.
Special Equipment Package
This option was only available for the top-of-the-line 3LT trim and was not available for markets that drive on the right-hand side of the road.
Colors
Only Accelerate Yellow Metallic or Hypersonic Gray Metallic colors were available for the Limited Edition C8.R.
If you order your model in Accelerate Yellow, you will receive gray contrasting graphics, but if you order it in Hypersonic Gray Metallic, you will receive yellow graphics.
2022 Corvette C8.R Championship Edition Package Added Equipment:
- High-wing spoiler finished in Carbon Flash
- Yellow brake calipers
- “Jake” center caps
- Black Trident design wheels, with the “Jake” logo on the center caps, and black lug nuts
- Exterior mirrors in Carbon Flash
- Black side rockers
- Black splash guards
- Full-length racing strip
- Special numbered plaques record the build number
Powertrain and performance enhancements
All C8.R Edition models have the same engine, a 6.2L LT2 V8 that can produce 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque when equipped with the optional Performance Exhaust.
Purchasing the IMSA GTLM Championship C8.R Edition package also entails purchasing the Z51 Performance Package, which includes a Performance Exhaust on all C8.R Editions.
2022 Corvette C8.R Championship Edition for Sale
This is car no. 836 of 1,000 and it’s up for grabs at the Mecum Orland Auction with just 15 miles on the clock.
One falls in love at first sight with the gorgeous Hypersonic Gray Metallic with those contrasting Edge Yellow full-length racing stripes.
Some of the other features you notice include the 19-inch front and 20-inch rear black wheels, Carbon Flash mirrors, wing spoiler, and yellow calipers. It has the Z51 Performance Package, which contains a performance-ratio rear axle, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, electronic limited-slip differential, performance suspension, braking, and exhaust system. There is a heavy-duty cooling system, front lift, adjustable height memory, Heads-up display, Power retractable body-color hardtop with remote activation, HD front/rear vision cameras, rear parking assist, and enhanced theft-deterrent system.
Check out some of the interior details. Carbon fiber trim, heated suede microfiber-wrapped steering wheel, wireless charging, rear camera mirror, 8-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), 14-speaker Bose sound system, and performance data and video recorder.
Mecum Auction Orlando 2022
LOT S124 will be auctioned at the Mecum summer auction in Florida at the Orange County Convention Center, 9400 Universal Blvd – North Concourse Orlando, FL. This will cross the block Saturday, July 9, 2022. Mecum Sold an Accelerate Yellow at their Glendale 2022 Auction on March 19, 2022, for $143,000 with 491 miles on it. It was No. 630.
