Best of Vette Vues-Volume One
The Beginning Years
When Vette Vues Magazine celebrated its first ten years of continuous publication, Editor and founder, James Prather, decided to do a Special Edition Collector book. The Best of Vette Vues Magazine came out in 1981. The book had a red hardcover and was 488-pages, which featured some of the favorite articles that appeared over those early years.
35th Anniversary Collector Book
Vette Vues Magazine was a pioneer in the Corvette magazine world. In 2006, the magazine was soon to be celebrating 35 years of successful business. The anniversary was quickly approaching. Since the magazine started in 1972, and many Corvette magazines came and went, we wanted to celebrate this significant benchmark in the hobby.
It is interesting how milestones turn us all into historians. When major events transpire like a company anniversary or the retirement of a founder – we tend to stop and reflect on the past. After all, the significance of the event is only truly appreciated when viewed in the context of what led up to it.
As many companies do – we asked: “How should we mark the occasion?” It was decided to put together a second volume of the Best of Vette Vues Magazine.
We contacted Jim Prather, and he enthusiastically offered his help!
Mr. Prather and the Wolf family started to look through the archives picking out some of the most outstanding events in the first 35 years of the magazine’s publication. Let me tell you that is a hard choice!
It took months to put the book together, and in the end, there was more material than could fit.
The Best Of Vette Vues Magazine Thirty-Fifth Anniversary Book was launched in 2007.
We decided to divide the book into nine chapters.
Chapter 1 would be our favorite covers, and we divided it into two sections. Jim Prather chose his favorite covers and the Wolf’s picked out theirs.
As we paged through the archives, it was decided the Corvettes should be featured next. Chapter Two would look back at some of the amazing Corvettes covered throughout the first 35 years. Following that, in Chapter 3, the coverage of some of the awesome Concept, Styling, and Prototype Cars. Chapter Four features some of the early Hybrid, Specialty, and High-Performance Cars.
Major parts of the Corvette hobby are the businessmen and women who manufacture and restore the Corvette parts as well as the major Corvette events. For our 35th anniversary, we wanted to celebrate our network of long-standing relationships with our advertisers and highlighted some of their early ads. Many of these companies were just starting out when Vette Vues Magazine launched its first issue in 1972.
Next, Corvette Racing. Racing has played a significant role in the history and development of the Corvette. It was only fitting to include some of the best moments in Corvette Racing’s history during our 35 years as well as some of those spectacular Cars.
The Tech area of Vette Vues Magazine has always been a favorite of our readers. We wanted to include some of those different articles that appeared.
Another favorite section in each issue of Vette Vues Magazine is the Model Scene and Toy Vues. Both William Landis and Jim Prather chose some of their favorite articles.
Climaxing the book is the Smile Department, where we feature some of those cute little cartoons.
The 35th Anniversary book is a love collection of Corvette history. The 35th-anniversary issue spotlights the people, companies, and events that have made the Corvette hobby what it is today.
Wow! Now it is 45 Year Later…
