Tremendous Selection of C1 Corvettes For Sale at Mecum Kissimmee 2022 Auction

UPDATED 01/17/2022 AT THE END OF THIS BLOG POST ARE THE C1 CORVETTE AUCTION RESULTS FROM THE MECUM KISSIMMEE 2022 AUCTION

Today on the Vette Vues Magazine blog, we are looking at the C1 Corvettes for Sale at the Mecum Auction in Kissimmee January 6-16, 2022.  The C1 ran from 1953-1962.  The first-year Corvettes were all Polo White paint, red interior, and black soft top with a total production of 300.

Production of the 1962 Corvette ended in August of 1962 and now comes in seven color choices.

Many changes took place on the C1 Corvette along the way, engine, transmission, etc., and the Corvette now had emerged as an American classic.

There were a total of 69,015 C1 Corvettes made and Mecum has 65 of them you can buy!

We have made two charts for you to help you navigate the C1 offerings.  The first chart lists the C1 Corvettes by year, the second chart list the C1 Corvette by the day they will cross the auction block.  You will find the charts at the end of this blog post.

Please Note: We want to mention that the consignor/seller provides the photos, descriptions, and other information, and Mecum does not verify this.  Therefore, make sure to do your own inspection and research!

First, we want to look at five C1 Corvettes that are Big Brake cars:

Lot F164 1957 Big Brake Airbox Corvette
Lot F164 1957 Big Brake Airbox Corvette – Photo Credit Mecum Auction

SOLD $440,000

Lot F164 is a 1957 Big Brake Airbox Corvette and is another of the John Juston awesome collection.  It is classic Polo White with a red interior and matching red wheels and has an estimated value is $550,000 – $650,000.  This car was featured in the April 1981 issue of Vette Vues and has complete ownership history of over 50 years, and has tons of historical photos.

This 1957 Corvette was a dominant force in SCCA and FIA competition.  It is one of only 51 1957 Corvettes produced with the RPO 684 Heavy Duty Racing Suspension.  Also, it is one of only 43 factory-equipped with the RPO 579E “Airbox” fresh air intake system available only with the solid-lifter cammed, Rochester fuel-injected 283/283 HP small-block V-8 engine.

In addition to the 684-spec cerametallic brakes with scoops channeling cooling air through vented backing plates, heavy-duty springs and shocks, and a quick steering adapter, the car was delivered with RPO 276 15×5.5-inch steel wheels with hubcaps, a 4-speed manual transmission, a Positraction rear end, and radio and heater delete.  This combination of options made it the perfect weapon for an SCCA racing career that saw entries at Sebring, Daytona, Lime Rock, and SCCA Regional tracks in Colorado, New Mexico, and Central Florida through its final racing season in 1959.

It was refurbished some years ago and has earned many top awards: Bloomington Gold Certification, NCRS Top Flight Award at Cypress Gardens in 1981, induction in the Bloomington Gold Special Collection in 1985, Bloomington Gold Special Collection in 1987, and inclusion in the 1987 Chevrolet 75th Anniversary Monterey Historics.

It was restored in 2017 by Dick Robinson using a treasure trove of original GM parts that included all five tires, exhaust, 5.5-inch wheels, front scoops, rear scoops, shocks, nuts, and bolts, “Black Widow” tachometer, backing plates, and drums.  The result: yet another NCRS Top Flight Award.

F173 is a 1962 Corvette Big Brake Fuelie estimated at $140,000-$160,000.  It has had a Body-off restoration to show condition and is finished in Tuxedo Black with Fawn interior.  This 1962 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible is 1 of only 246 optioned with the very rare RPO-687 race package: Heavy Duty Brakes, suspension, shocks, air scoops/deflectors, metallic brakes, cooling fans, wide wheels, and fast steering adaptor, equivalent to the 1963 Z06.  Matching numbers fuel injected 327/360 HP V-8 engine and T10 4-speed transmission make this a great Corvette to collect.  It is fully documented with the restoration photos, owner history back to 1991, and NCRS certificate and judging sheets.  It includes most all factory-correct-type components, including the spare, jack, jack tools, trunk mat, trunk liner, tail light cones, rebound straps, seat belts, washer system, shifter, shielding, air cleaner, generator, distributor, spark plug shields, hoses, hose clamps, valve covers, fuel injection unit, fuel-injection-specific fuel filter, finned balancer, guide Y-50 mirror, owner’s manual, sales brochure and T-3 headlights.
