C4 Corvette Maintenance Basics: Featuring Defect Reports and Recalls by Model Year by John Loughmiller
Do you own a C4 Corvette?
C4 Corvette Maintenance Basics by John Loughmiller is full of details to help you troubleshoot and maintain your C4 Corvette. It has been out for a few years (since 2016), but I wanted to share it with because if you have just purchased a used C4, this book is certainly going to be helpful and save you hours of research!
There are four chapters: Chapter 1 – Maintaining the C4, Chapter 2 – C4 Resources, Chapter 3 – C4 Recalls, Chapter 4 – C4 Defect Reports. I do want to note though, that there are thirteen model years covered, so not all the pages are going to be specific to your year.
Its softbound and is 536 pages and covers All 1984-1996 C4 Corvettes. This is not a coffee table book: No color photos, just tons of data!
In the book, you find necessary maintenance information plus parts and accessory resources and recall information. John presents a listing of failures and problems sorted by model year as reported by Corvette dealers, owners, and independent repair shops.
John was able to find historical Defect Reports on old 3.5 floppy disks that he had accumulated. These data were collected by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) going all the way back to the first C4, the 1984 model. Unfortunately, the NHTSA website provides minimal information.
I learned that currently, buying this book is the only way to obtain defect and problem information for the entire C4 production run – 1984 through 1996 models.
As a bonus, you’ll also find a basic troubleshooting and maintenance section plus a resource section that will help you locate needed parts and accessories.
