This year the Solid Axle Corvette Club held their convention in Detroit on August 13-16, 2019. The event was hosted by the Michigan Solid Axle Corvette Chapter. For those of you that are new to the Corvette hobby, let's first explain what a solid axle is and tell you about the club that enjoys them.  There are “generations” of Corvettes, C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C6, C7 and now the C8.  By now you probably know that Corvette started with the 1953 model year.   These are called C1s or first-generation Corvettes. Former Chevrolet General Manager Jim Perkins, The fall version of Bloomington Gold is coming up October 11-12 at the Hendrick Motorsports Campus in Charlotte, NC. This year the Gold Collection will pay tribute to Mr. Jim Perkins. Jim saved Corvette when it faced the chopping block the 1990s. If it weren't for him, there might never have ever been a C5, C6, or C7, much less the new C8. We'll get into that later. Jim Perkins life exemplifies the American dream. It won't be long now until the next Corvettes at Carlisle event. This year's dates are August 22-25, 2019 and they recently announced that the New C8 Mid-Engine Corvette will be on display! Since 1982 Corvettes at Carlisle has been hosting the hottest cars and coolest guests associated with America's Sports Car, the Corvette. In some cases, event weekend coincides with the pending release of the next generation of Corvette as was the case in 2013 when the C7 Stingray helped usher in an all-new Fun Field record. That number (2,823) is in serious jeopardy as part of the 2019 show because Team Chevrolet has announced that the all-new C8 mid-engine Corvette will be in Carlisle. The NCRS Winter Regional Meet has had many homes since 1978.
