2023 Corvette ZO6: The Mid-Engine Masterpiece – Purpose Built and Promise

Our second video in the 2023 Corvette Z06 academy is on the Purpose and Promise of the 8th Generation Corvette. In it, you will see the following people:

  • Josh Holder: Chief Engineer, Corvette
  • Laura Wontrop Klauser: Sports Car Racing Program Manager
  • Yoon Lee: Design System Engineer
  • Steve Haener: Senior Marketing Manager, Performance Vehicles
  • Alex Macdonald, Vehicle Performance Manager, Corvette, and Camaro

Josh Holder, Chief Engineer Corvette, starts off this video and tells us that “The ZO6 was not an afterthought. In fact, the architecture of the mid-engine design was done with the ZO6 in mind. It was planned from the very beginning.”

“There was nothing shared with a previous engine. It was a clean-sheet design based around the requirements for performance that we had for the car.”

“The eighth-generation ZO6 is the culmination of Corvette Performance.”

“We are mentioned in the same breath with the true exotic supercars, that you never, ever associated Corvette with before. But the ZO6 takes us to a whole new level. And was literally designed and engineered to be a street-legal race car.”

“The chassis is super responsive, it’s super capable, but it doesn’t punish the driver with a harsh ride.”

“It’s just as comfortable taking a high-speed turn on a racetrack as it is taking a leisurely drive down the road to go out to dinner.”

“This is for a track-focused driver who wants a really intense, capable, urgent car for the track and wants to go beat up on their competitors when they go to a track day.”

2023 ZO6 Corvette Pricing

At the time of this video academy release, we still don’t know what the pricing on the ZO6 is going to be. We do have the preliminary pricing on the 2023 Stingray which starts at $61,900 for the base coupe.

Although Chevy hasn’t officially revealed the price, we can’t tell what it will cost other than to speculate. Previous models from this Chevrolet would start around $25,000 more than the base model. The 2022 Corvette starts at around $62k so we can assume that when the Z06 goes on sale as the 2023 model, it will probably cost around $90,000.

Engine, Transmission, Performance and Handling

The width of the 2023 Corvette Z06 is wider than that of the Corvette Stingray, its air intake is wider and its rear wing is different. With improved performance and handling, the car is superior. The Z06 Chevrolet Corvette will likely beat out top-of-the-line sports cars at a race track if those expensive vehicles happen to find themselves pitted against it. With the new Corvette Z06 you’ll have a 5.5-liter V-8 engine, a flat-plane crank, and the engine reaches 8600 rpm producing 670 horsepower. The rear-wheel-drive ZO6 Corvette’s V-8 engine is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It will ride on a set of wider, stickier tires. The stronger brakes will make it able to corner better and stop faster than a regular Corvette. Chevy also strengthens the Z06’s chassis to ensure its performance at the racetrack. There’s an optional Z07 package that features aerodynamic upgrades, reduced weight, and upgraded tires and brakes. Included with the car are 20-inch front and 21-inch rear forged aluminum wheels, but a set of lighter and stronger carbon-fiber rollers are an optional add-on.

What to expect inside the ZO6 2023 Corvette

The first thing you notice is the square steering wheel and the sharp-looking digital gauge cluster. Next is the impressive wall of climate-control buttons on the center console. There is an 8.0-inch touchscreen in the Corvette’s multilayered dashboard where Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot are available. In fact, even wireless phone charging and the head-up display are available. You’ll still have the opportunity to record video of your track experience or your road cruises with the performance data recorder. The heated and ventilated seats have microsuede accents and two carbon-fiber-intensive interior packages are very stunning.

With the debut of the 2020 C8 Corvette Stingray, Chevrolet created 23 videos for this vehicle’s owners. The new videos showed you how to make the most of your car.
