Kentucky Expo Center
This year (2022) was the 28th time that Louisville hosted the NSRA Street Rod Nationals. Vette Vues learns that they had an all-time high number of participants and spectators. Not only was the Kentucky Expo Center used but its outbuildings were used as well for vendor and dealer displays and many other attractions.
According to a press release from the National Street Rod Association, the four-day NSRA event generates $17 million in economic impact for the city of Louisville.
NSRA elaborates more specifics about their organization in a press release and what to expect at the event.
1.) The NSRA defines a street rod as a modified vintage car manufactured before 1949.
2.) These vehicles are equipped with the latest options available on the newest model vehicles, including but not limited to disc brakes, air conditioning, cruise control, and a tilt steering wheel.
3.) Most attending have updated the engine and drive train to enable the owner to cruise down the highway comfortably and safely maintain the speeds traveled by more modern vehicles.
4.) Included in this event are muscle cars, those factory-produced high horsepower machines from the ’60s, 70’s, and 80’s, along with the classic cars of the ’50s.
5.) This is a truly unique mix of old and new together again at the Kentucky Expo Center and a national gathering of fine vintage automobiles of every description.
6.) The NSRA Street Rod Nationals is the area’s largest automotive participation event, and spectators from around the area attend the event.
7.) Other activities at the event include product seminars for those interested in restoration, a trade show, an arts and crafts fair, and a vintage auto parts swap meet.
8.) On Saturday, Caribou performed at 2:30 p.m., and on Sunday, there was an all-denomination church service at 10 a.m. with music from Sunday Drive.
Looking at the Cars
NSRA Street Rod Nationals is an excellent event for spectators, and those who attend can view some of the most beautifully constructed and striking vintage vehicles on display.
The display cars are not roped off or otherwise restricted, allowing spectators to walk up to the vehicles and see each one up close.
While the exquisite paint and other features of the vehicle should not be touched, spectators are welcome to examine it from top to bottom, front to back, inside and out.
What is a street rod worth these days? According to the web, street rods are worth between $20,000 and $150,000.
