While the high-powered 427 CI L88 Corvette ceased production after 1969, Chevrolet continued its legacy of producing virtually race-ready cars with the introduction of the ZR1 in 1970. The ZR1 package, which was priced at $968.95 in 1970 and $1,010.05 by 1972, offered a lighter-weight Corvette powered by the new 350/370 HP LT1 engine. It was designed with performance in mind, eliminating weight-adding features such as power windows, air conditioning, and deluxe wheel covers.

Performance and Specifications

The 1972 ZR1 package included a variety of high-performance components:

  • LT1 V-8 engine producing 255 HP (SAE Net) for 1972
  • M22 “Rock Crusher” close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission
  • Heavy-duty power brakes
  • Transistorized ignition
  • Special aluminum radiator with metal fan shroud
  • Special springs, shocks, and stabilizer bars

Only 20 ZR1s were produced in 1972, making them exceedingly rare. Despite lowered compression ratios that reduced the gross horsepower, these cars’ performance remained electrifying.

Recognized Excellence

This 1972 Corvette, Lot S260, is not only rare but also highly acclaimed. It has received multiple prestigious awards, including:

  • Bloomington Gold Certification
  • NCRS Top Flight award
  • NCRS Performance Verification
  • NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence

These accolades reflect the car’s superior condition and authenticity, making it a coveted piece for collectors and enthusiasts.
