There was the usual high level of excitement for the annual Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) exposition for Corvette fans, with over thirty Corvettes on display. Several categories also provided builders with exposure and a chance at awards.
The show opens on Tuesday but actually starts on Monday evening with various “receptions” to reveal new products. For example, GM hosted its press reveal on Monday night, just a few hours before the official show floor opening, with a combined Corvette, Camaro, Malibu, and truck reveal.
GM RECEPTION FOR SPECIAL INTRODUCTIONS
Among the celebrities invited to help design “lifestyle” themes for various vehicles were Detroit-based Kid Rock, Ron Fellows, John Force, and Courtney Force.
Each was linked to a special package vehicle and briefly discussed their program.
C7.R LIMITED EDITION PACKAGE
The Corvette Z06’s capability is derived from technologies the Corvette Racing team developed. GM brings the benefits of this experience to you with the 2016 C7.R Limited Edition. It’s offered in Corvette Racing’s signature yellow livery – or black – with coordinated exterior and interior accents. Only 650 will be built (five hundred for the U.S. market), all with the Z07 Performance Package with carbon ceramic brakes and a specially serialized vehicle identification number.
T1 TRACK PACKAGE
The idea for a track package (off-road only) originated at the Ron Fellows Corvette high-performance driving school at the Spring Mountain track. Instructors wanted some way to make sure a standard (or ZR1) Corvette could handle the rigors of track use in the heat of the Nevada desert. They figured they could produce such an enhanced model with components from a new lineup of Z06-based performance parts. GM bought into the idea, creating the T1 “track” parts list. In this case, many parts are sourced from the Z06 and are offered as direct replacements for the Stingray’s original parts*.
*The installation and operation of these components or replacement engines in new vehicles are intended for off-road operation only.

CUSTOM CORVETTE ENTRIES AT THE 2015 SEMA SHOW
The TEN (magazine conglomerate) display included two Corvettes to emphasize the Corvette’s role in their magazine portfolio. The first was the 1963 Mickey Thompson Z06 “Mystery Motor” car, owned by Tom McIntyre.
The second Corvette on the TEN corporate display was the dark blue 1964 of Barry Blanquist. Details on the history of this car weren’t provided, but it still drew big crowds.
We hope you enjoyed a trip down memory lane as we re-discover the excitement of the 2015 SEMA Corvettes in Las Vegas, with over thirty Corvettes on display and builders competing for awards, including a limited edition Corvette Z06 and a track package for the ultimate driving experience.
