FOLLOW US Today on the Vette Vues Blog we are looking at the 1979 and 1980 Corvette advertisements. We also are taking a look at Corvette ad proofs. As we look at the 1979 and 1980 Corvette Ads and Trivia we remember that there was the worst commercial nuclear power plant accident in United States history. It unfolded on Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania near Harrisburg, about 35 miles east of the Carlisle Fairgrounds.   The reason I mention the Carlisle Fairgrounds is that the world's largest Corvette show takes place there once a year, Corvette’s at Carlisle, in August. Let us take a look at some of the options as we look back to one on display in the NCRS Gallery at Corvettes at Carlisle in 2011. The 1969 Corvette was visually identical to the '68 except that the 1969 Corvette brought back the "Stingray" badge and it was now one word. There was a total production of 38,762, with convertibles totaling 16,633 and coupes - 22,129. There was a labor dispute in May of 1969 which caused the 1969 model year run longer. In this blog post, we are going to look at two historical 1981 Corvettes. The last one produced at the St. Louis factory and the first one built at Bowling Green factory. These two 1981 Corvettes were sold for charity at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Las Vegas in 2010 and brought almost $300,000 for the Ralph Braun Foundation. This foundation offers grants to people and organizations in need of a wheelchair van, who couldn’t otherwise afford one. First a little history of the Corvette factories.
