So, Who is Wil Cooksey:

Throughout the history of Corvettes, there have been many special people who played a big role. These folks were innovative thinkers, dreamers with big ideas, and even rule-breakers who pushed the limits to make Corvettes better than ever. They joined forces with talented designers, skilled engineers, smart managers, and hardworking employees on the assembly line, where the cars come together.

One of these remarkable people is Wil Cooksey. He set the bar high for all the managers who followed him at the Corvette Assembly Plant. He loved Corvettes and brought his engineering knowledge and leadership skills to make them even better. Working closely with the United Auto Workers Union, they built a strong connection between the people who made the cars and those who owned them.

Although retired in 2008, Cooksey is still connected to his beloved Corvettes. He’s often seen at Corvette events and the National Corvette Museum. His journey to success wasn’t easy. Born in Texas in 1942, he faced tough times growing up in a big family. His mom worked hard, and he learned to work hard too. He went to college and met his wife Liz, and together they faced challenges with determination.

Cooksey’s path led him to work at General Motors (GM), and he worked his way up, even serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He fell in love with Corvettes, and his dream came true when he got to work on them at GM. He became the Corvette Plant Manager and left a lasting impact on the Corvette world. In recognition of his contributions, Chevrolet released a special edition Corvette with his name.

Looking back on his journey, Cooksey is proud to have been part of something legendary. He’s humbled by his induction into the National Corvette Museum Corvette Hall of Fame and feels grateful for the people who supported him along the way. His story is one of hard work, dedication, and a deep love for the iconic Corvette cars that continue to captivate car enthusiasts around the world.
